Terms of Service
Effective: 2026-10-10
1. The service
RTVSE — Rapid Text Verified Substitute Engine — is operated by Derek Barker ("the service"). It is an SMS-based sick-call and substitute-dispatch system for school bus operators. It accepts text messages from drivers and substitutes, coordinates substitute coverage with dispatch-office staff, and records dispatch decisions.
2. Eligibility
The service is provided to school districts and other transportation operators under a written agreement or authorized pilot arrangement. Individuals who message the service must be authorized participants — drivers, substitutes, or dispatch staff of a participating operator.
3. Acceptable use
- Use the service only for legitimate reporting of sick calls, late reports, availability, and dispatch coordination.
- Do not use the service to send unlawful, harassing, or fraudulent messages.
- Do not transmit student data or other protected personal information outside the scope of a district's written data-handling agreement.
4. Dispatch decisions
The service assists, but does not replace, dispatch-office judgment. The operator's dispatch office retains authority over all coverage decisions, including candidate selection and final assignment. RTVSE is provided "as is" for operational assistance; participating operators are responsible for confirming that resulting assignments comply with their own policies, labor agreements, and legal obligations.
5. Availability
The service is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, and the service is not a substitute for the operator's own emergency procedures. Text-message delivery depends on carriers and network conditions outside our control.
6. SMS Consent and Opt-In Program Details
Users explicitly consent to receive automated operational text messages regarding dispatch activity. Message frequency varies based on activity, and standard message and data rates may apply.
- Opt-in: By providing your phone number and using the service, you consent to receive SMS messages from RTVSE.
- Opt-out: Reply STOP to any RTVSE message to immediately opt out of SMS traffic for that number.
- Help: Reply HELP for assistance at any time.
- Frequency: Message frequency varies with dispatch activity. You will only receive messages directly related to your participation in the dispatch system.
- Cost: Standard message and data rates may apply as determined by your mobile carrier.
7. Changes
We may update these terms as the service develops. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
